Understanding Green Energy Technology

You may think it takes specialized knowledge about technology to use green energy technology however you don't need to become a technology expert to use green energy technology in your home. All you need is some basic information about how to use this technology to save energy around the home. Read on for some straightforward tips from OZ3 LED .

There are now many options if you want to make a larger scale investment in energy saving and energy generating systems that are compatible around the home. These include the use of wind power with the installation of a wind turbine if you have the outside space and are situated where there are plenty of windy days. You will always need a backup power source for a wind generation system, to account for low-wind days. This backup could be another type of renewable energy source, such as a battery system powered by solar energy.

There are now an abundance of accredited suppliers and installers of solar panels for domestic use in the UK. Solar energy systems generate electricity to power heating systems and water heating around the home. You might also consider the possibility of selling some of the surplus green energy you generate back to the National Grid and go some way to recoup the cost of your initial investment. Some utility suppliers will buy energy directly from consumers and this can really make going greener pay off for you today and well into the future.

If you cannot afford to upgrade or replace any part of your home's energy systems, then simply change your energy-using habits instead. Here are a few handy hints.

Take short showers instead of long baths.
Only wash maximum capacity loads of clothes or dishes to cut back on water consumption.
Make a small investment in a water butt for your outside space and redirect your gutter pipe into the water butt to collect rainwater.
Get into the habit of turning off any lights or appliances before leaving a room. Remember that turning a TV or appliance to standby mode still uses power so switch off at the mains!
Avoid putting hot foods in the fridge or freezer, just let them cool down first! By putting hot foods in the fridge, it increases the internal temperature causing your appliance to run longer in order to return to it's desired temperature.
Have your boiler serviced regularly to ensure it is running efficiently.
Turn your thermostat down, even just by 1°C as it could save you up to 10% on your bill over a year.
Fix any leaks or dripping taps. One dripping tap wastes enough water to fill a bath over the period of one week!
And finally, you could always make the switch to LED.

For a minimal cost, a simple way to go green is to replace your regular light bulbs with LED's. These light bulbs use about one tenth of the energy as regular light bulbs but can last up to twelve times longer. They also don't generate as much heat so they are particularly useful in the summer months.

Next Christmas you might want to consider disposing of your old Christmas tree bulbs and replacing them with new energy efficient LED rope lights to light up your tree and your home. These lights use 90 percent less energy than the old style lights and will save you money during the holiday season.

After reading this article, you can see that green energy technology isn't so hard to implement and all it takes is some basic knowledge and new energy saving habits. Use the tips above to make your home environmentally friendly, more efficient and in turn save energy and money.
